Do you ever get the feeling your stuck in the twilght zone?

At least twice a day I get a customer that goes out of their way to ask a question, pick my brain, or whatever it is they call it. The conversation starts off well and normal they tell me what it is they want to do like hooking up wireless. Pretty simple for most of us, but they throw out a big wall block, "I want to use my TV as a monitor and play movies from my laptop on my TV" so I say: "okay sir/ma'am, all you need is such and such router." the customer responds "NO! I have to use my hotspot I looked it up," I try to explain a router is a hotspot, but they tell me a hotspot is only with their cell phone service and routers are not and cannot act as hotspots. so my question is people if they already know more than we do and they are just gona try to tell us we are wrong why ask for our help in the first place? Why have us explain this when they are not even going to consider it to be an answer? Who has had the feeling of being punked while helping a non-tech?

the start or "Pilot" if you will.

In today's world everybody thinks they know everything about computers, they think just because they "googled" something and saw the answer on two different pages they are a professional tech so when they go to the store of their choice thinking they already know what it is they need, want, have to have or whatever it makes guys who actually know what they are doing's job that much harder because not only do we have to convince them  they need option B rather than the A, but we are now faced with the job of also convincing them that "yea you googled this and two different pages said you need this however comma ( yes I say comma out loud) you googled the wrong thing so you have the wrong answer." My name is michael I am a tech and I have been a tech for a long time and have worked for retail for a long time and this is only one of many obstacles I face in the life of a tech. I hope to start a kind of support group, venting channel, or even just a place were techs can come to hear the pains of techs, share their pain, or just laugh at how hard it is to be a tech. No matter if your software, hardware, retail, freelance, or just the neighborhood go to guy this is a safe place for us all. This blog may even go so far as to stop the non-techs from blaming a complete stranger for their PC having a virus, or yell at someone whom has never even seen their house for breaking their PC. Perhaps together we can end the war between the techs and non-techs..... for good. welcome to hard life techs.
